Job Description: The role of Farm Market & Workshops Coordinator encompasses a variety of tasks to be completed in a timely and efficient manner. The Farm Market & Workshops Coordinator is required to
Coordinate 3 culture-based workshops that connect people and plants through distinct cultural plant-focused traditions
Contribute to the development and delivery of interactive educational material at farmers’ markets and Barefoot Blooms’ social media
Coordinate and contribute to preparations and delivery of flowers and flower products to farmers’ markets and CSA, including mentoring and leadership to other summer students and volunteers
Assist with on-going garden maintenance and advancements that improve energy and water efficiency
Job Responsibilities: The Farm Market & Workshops Coordinator is responsible for:
Arriving at work on time and be prepared for the work required of them (for example, appropriate clothing)
Advising the employer of any situations that will prevent or interfere with expected work attendance
Communicating clearly with the employer any work-related concerns they may have at any point throughout the duration of this job term regarding the tasks and responsibilities expected of them, including any health & safety concerns
Being respectful of the workplace environment, other employees or volunteers, the equipment used, the family members who reside at Barefoot Blooms business location, and visitors to the gardens and farm
Conducting activities required of the job safely
Working productively with the expectation of achieving the identified tasks required of this position
Qualifications: This position requires a post secondary student who was registered as a full-time student for the 2016-2017 school year and intends to return to school full-time in the next academic year, and is not older than 30 years of age (inclusive). The successful candidate will possess a valid Nova Scotia Drivers’ License and a clean driving record.
Preferred Candidates will possess experience with:
interacting with the public, including customer-relations
coordinating projects in a leadership capacity
problem-solving
group project work, team player
working on a farm/in gardens
creating and conducting presentations
working independently
working with using non-mechanized farm tools
working outside in all weather conditions
Preferred candidates will also demonstrate
superior communication skills
an outgoing and friendly personality
an interest in organic, sustainable farming practices
an interest in ethnobotany, permaculture and sustainable farming practices, local small scale agriculture, ecology, and/or environmental education
an interest in learning and applying project management skills as recognized by the Project Management Institute (to learn more: www.pmi.org)
Working Conditions:
outdoors (all weather) or greenhouse setting, office/computer work
heavy lifting required, as well as extended use of garden tools (shovels, hoes, spades, whipper-snipper)
low-to-ground gardening (on knees)
interaction with public visitors and clients
dogs & cats present, other livestock such as sheep
noise level will vary; occasionally quite loud (if near mechanized farm equipment)
Work Hours: Preferred, though days and times will and can vary based on weather and job requirements and considerations requested of candidate:
6-8 hour shifts, except market days that will be longer
early mornings, often
Monday to Friday, or Tuesday to Saturday
